This week's weekly banger is Story of the Year's ALBUM, Page Avenue. Like for realz. Find it. Wear earbuds/headphones. Enjoy. Like so little words are needed yet, I'ma give 'em to you anyway.
The album starts off with a great intro song, Track 1, And The Hero Will Drown. I ,personally, would prefer if the song just starts at about 30 seconds into the song instead of building it all up, but I think musicians like to create build ups into their greatness instead of just giving the best right up front, so I get that and can respect it. If you click on the link, it'll take you to a live version of this song and this whole Ghost Signal series they have posted is AMAZING!!! Feels like I've found their music for the first time againπ€
The second song is the one you probably already know, Track 2 Until The Day I Die...
This song has gotten enough attention, onto the next!!
Track 3 Anthem of Our Dying Day
Wait for it and then it slams you! "From up here the city lights burn, like a thousand miles of fire!" #goosebumps I'm watching the music video for the first time now. There's a lot of birds. The guitar riffs are so sexy, ugh. The teenage emo girl in me loves this song!! Try to not bob your head or any part of your body.
The way the guitar jerks around and then the bass tip toes in.. like how did these dudes create such musical masterpieces? π€πI found this live version first and this is the song that made me pick this band to be featured as this week's banger.
I think I prefer this live version to the album. This is a really pretty song. Its looking within to oversome. "Swallow the knife", like swallow that hard pill and move on, persevere.
The guitar intro is right on point. This album gives such a great musical, nostalgic experience for me. This a definitely a banger. "Nothing can fly with this broken wing" will probably get stuck in your head, so apologies beforehand π
This song makes me want to hop on my skateboard and ride into the sunset π Too bad I never could skateboard, I should have tried harder with that. That would have been dope #regrets
This cuties have definitely aged well if I do say so myself. I'll check to see if the band stayed together... *computing* Wow. OK. The first thing that comes up in their wiki page is that this band's name has changed 3 times. They started as 67 North and then Big Blue Monkey before becoming Story of the Year in 2002. Since 2000, it's been the same dudes pretty much so that's cool. Looks like they are about to head out on tour again too so that's exciting!!
I didn't know this song had an official music video! What a treat! Story of the Year slows it down and brings you a real nice banger with excellent drums and melody. "Sidewalks” is one of those songs that sneaks up on you — softer than the band’s usual chaos, but somehow it hits even harder. It’s nostalgic, reflective, and honest, the kind of track that captures what it feels like to grow up and look back at everything, or something, that shaped you. The raw emotion in Dan Marsala’s voice mixed with the soaring guitars gives it that perfect early-2000s balance between angst and beauty. It’s the quieter side of Page Avenue, but it’s also the heart of it — the song that reminds you where you’ve been, and maybe who you still are.
I remember when I was 15 or so, I asked my mother to get me this CD album for #Christmas that year. She was gracious enough to trust me make my own musical choices and did give me this CD and I was so happy and I remember her making a remark about the titles of the songs.. something like "what's this music about?" I don't think she quite understood, haha, sorry Mom!π
It’s wild how Page Avenue still punches that hard after all these years. It’s more than an album — it’s teenage memories, basement shows, and windows-down summers wrapped in distortion and emotion.
▶️ Long live Page Avenue. Long live the bangers that raised usπ€
