I love songs that take you on a journey and Avenged Sevenfold has so many of them that do so.
Guitars, spiders, doves, tattoos galore. What is this song about?? I've got two theories after watching the video for the first time:
- Its a breakup song - the afterlife being the bad, end part of the relationship, or
- He's the devil or a demon, and has taken a woman with him to the afterlife but then makes her leave soon after she arrives
After some deep rabbit hole diving, the lyrics are actually all about someone who’s died but realizes it wasn’t their time — like, they’re already in the afterlife, but they’re not done living. The song wrestles with regret, ego, and the desire to make things right. Deep? Yes. But make it metal 🤘Yes.
This song is heavy, it’s theatrical, it’s beautiful chaos — and it’s the banger you didn’t know you needed this week.
