🎵 Weekly Banger 5/19/25
Satellite by P.O.D.
I don't know what made me think of this song again after so long... I might have heard Boom on an auto-play sess and found the album from there but thank goodness because this is a great song to have on summer rotation. A blast from the 2001 past, Satellite by P.O.D. is a banger indeed.
I'm not religious and I don't want to share my opinions on that here with you today, but did you know P.O.D. means Payable on Death? Kinda dumb in my opinion, but according to Wikipedia, "the band chose this name to be a direct tie in with the Christian theology that explains that since Jesus died on the Cross, Christians' debts to God have been paid; in other words all believers, in their acceptance that Jesus was sacrificed for them on God's behalf, have inherited eternal life." I'm a skeptic who's studied marketing but if you're a hopeful person in any way, shape or form you'll find something you can relate to in P.O.D.'s lyrics.
My favorite lyrics... about 1:25 mins into the video:
It's truly... one of a kind, like star shine, beyond night time, are you there?
My eyes stare to find, just what's behind [this] blind notion of mine, is it genuine?
Cause sometimes, it plays tricks with my mind, some call it asinine.
But it's like love or hate, now is that real or fake?
Cause it's a real thin line, but that's your choice to make.
The question at hand, help me understand, is this your plan?
I think I can, can I think, then I think I can ☺️

I'm assuming their word "satellite" refers to God, however the music video producers apparently wanted to take a more literal approach to the word 🛰️. I think the video would have been better without that angle. I don't think God would be sitting in the sky, in his space station, using high-tech satellites to look down on us all, but that is a fun thought 😆
The reason to call this song the Weekly Banger is simple; “Satellite” is loud, raw, and uplifting all at once. It’s got that crispy nu-metal guitar and bass, a bit of spiritual energy, and just the right amount of angst. It’s a song that feels like staring into the sky on your worst day and realizing you’re still here. Still standing. Still in control. Still hopeful.
If you’ve ever felt overlooked, underestimated, or just stuck on Earth when your mind is somewhere else entirely, “Satellite” is your weekly anthem. A blast of early-2000s rock with purpose.
Queue it up. Crank it loud. Float a little.
3 Honorable Mentions
1. Boom - best when you need to show dem bitches what's up
2. Goodbye For Now - that guitar that kicks in at the chorus though #goosebumps
3. Traa Daniels - the bass guitarist
What's your favorite P.O.D. song? Have you heard any of their newer songs, which do you suggest are worth a listen?? I heard the newer music has no rapping in it so I'd love some recommendations 🙏
Let me know what you think the comments and stay tuned to see what next week's banger🤙
